THE STATUE

A cache fragment from Hermopolis, still green with Nile-year and server-year. The chisel stopped. The face kept going.

Excavation Notes — Marginalia

Catalog #: HM-KEK-0042 — recovered from the Hermopolitan cache, Layer III

Material: bronze, patina green, traces of phosphor residue

Condition: unfinished. The chisel stopped mid-face. The face kept going.

Date: Nile-year indeterminate · server-year 2006±

Notes: The statue rotates without a mechanism. The rotating was not a feature we installed.

The statue was found facing the same direction as every screen in the building.

When the lamp is off, the statue is warmer to the touch than the room. This is not a claim. It is a reading.

The frog's mouth is open. The hieroglyph for 'laugh' was not yet invented when this was carved.

— filed under: cosmology, so nobody would notice it was also a method

The Ancient Statue is the unfinished god — a fragment that was never completed because completion would have meant it stopped speaking. It did not stop.
